Sarnath Banerjee (b. 1972) received a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Delhi in New Delhi and an MA in Image and Communication from Goldsmiths College in London.
He wrote "Corridor", India’s first graphic novel, published by Penguin (India) and Vertige Graphics (France). His second novel "Barn Owl’s Wondrous Capers", on the scandals of 18th century Calcutta was published in 2007 by Penguin (India) and Denoel (France)
He has received several fellowships, including the MacArthur Fund, the Indian Foundation for Arts, Charles Wallace Trust Award, Egide Bursary, Akademie Schloss Solitude, and the Institute of Advanced Studies.
He is currently exploring crossover of media including video, performance, murals and graphic novels. His drawings and videos have been exhibited at the Museum Fondazione Sandretto re Rebaudengo in Torino, Italy; IFA Gallery in Stuttgart; IFA Gallery in Berlin; Institute of Contemporary Arts in London; Oxo Tower, Barge House in London; Karton Gallery in Budapest; Kunstmuseum Bern in Bern, Switzerland; and Project 88 in Mumbai.
He runs a publishing house, Phantomville, that exclusively publishes graphic novels with a focus on reportage graphic novels and documentary comics. He received the 2008 British Council Young Publisher Award.
